Roof Border measures a roof without any tracing. You click the building on the satellite map and the system returns every roof face with its own area and its own pitch — no outlining, no dragging corners, no drawing the perimeter by hand. A measurement takes about 40 seconds.
Why tracing is the slow part
Most roof measurement tools ask you to draw. You find the property, then outline the roof edge by edge, place each ridge and each valley, and assign a pitch yourself. On a simple gable that takes a couple of minutes. On a hip roof with three dormers and an attached garage, it takes a lot longer — and two estimators tracing the same roof rarely land on the same number.
Tracing is also where the errors come from. A perimeter drawn three feet wide on a 2,000 sq ft roof is 6 % of material you either eat or overcharge for.
What point-and-click does instead
You type the address. The building is identified on the satellite image. You click it. The system reads the roof geometry directly and gives back:
- Every roof face, measured separately, with its own square footage
- The pitch of each face, in the standard x/12 notation
- Total roof area, in square feet and in roofing squares
- The footprint of the building on the ground
- The satellite image with every face outlined, ready for the quote
Nothing is drawn by hand. If the address lands on the wrong building — it happens, addresses sit on the street, not on the house — you click the right one and the measurement follows.

You stay in control of what counts
Automatic does not mean unquestionable. Every measured face is listed with its area and pitch, and each one has a checkbox. A face that belongs to a neighbour's extension, a section already reroofed last year, a canopy you are not quoting — uncheck it and the total updates. The tool measures; you decide what goes on the quote.
There is also a Check pitch in 3D button that opens the property in a tilted satellite view. Ten seconds to confirm with your own eyes that a 13/12 really is a 13/12.
Small buildings the satellite misses
Detached garages, sheds and workshops are measured as separate buildings — you click each one in turn and each gets its own faces and pitches.
Some structures are genuinely too small or too hidden for a satellite: a shed under a mature tree, a lean-to against a fence. The interface and the quotes come in English, Spanish and French. A US account works in English and Spanish, so a Spanish-speaking roofer can measure in Spanish and hand the customer a quote in English — same roof, measured once. A Canadian account works in French and English.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to draw or trace the roof?
No. You click the building on the satellite map and the roof is measured automatically, face by face. There is no perimeter to outline and no corners to drag.
How does it know the roof pitch?
The pitch of each roof face is measured from the satellite data, not estimated from the footprint, and reported in x/12 notation. See roof pitch from satellite.
What if the address points at the wrong building?
You click the correct building on the map, or paste its coordinates, and the measurement moves with it. Addresses sit on the street, so this is common on rural lots and corner properties.
Can I exclude part of the roof?
Yes. Every measured face is listed with its own area and pitch and can be unchecked. The total updates as you go, so a section you are not quoting never reaches the customer's price.
What does it cost to try?
